Grady, Jeff

A lifelong Apple Macintosh user and former software designer, Grady was fascinated by the iPod and it’s overnight assimilation into society. Inspired by Dale Chihuly’s eccentric collections and installations of uniquely shaped glass, Grady began collecting and using the device as a medium for art, tying together his love of music and technology. “Technology lives at the core of all music so there are a lot of parallels. Technology has also done a lot to change music and the business of music.  It is all fascinating and constantly changing. It is a great place to embrace, enjoy and influence change”, says Grady.  He spent several years procuring thousands of broken iPods to be used in his mosaic motif series.  Drawing from digital and 8-bit icons, Grady makes iconic imagery about vintage tech, using defunct iPods as his medium.
